Winter 2011–2012
Cover Story
An eight-hour exposure of the night sky taken near Windhoek, Namibia, in July 1997, showing the diurnal motion of the stars around the southern celestial pole. A full twenty-four-hour exposure showing 360 degrees of diurnal motion could only be made from the earth’s polar regions during the months of total darkness, as any sunlight would dominate the exposure.
